Special Olympics Robotics team receives Innovation Project Award

Earlier this year, we shared that Ms. Smith and Mrs. Jackson started a Special Olympics Robotics Team that consists of 10 athletes and five 8th-grade peers. The team has been meeting every other day for 45 minutes to learn to code, design robots, practice missions and developed a project called The Battery Getter Outer. The team recently competed at the First Lego League competition where they earned the Innovation Project Award. This award is given to one team that shared their prototype with an expert and then made modifications to the project based on what the expert suggested. It also was given to a team that showed teamwork in their presentation and found a problem that was a real world problem. Several members of the team along with Ms. Smith and Mrs. Jackson will travel to Des Moines on February 8th to present at STEM Day at the capitol. Way to go, Sabers!'
