💜💛 Congratulations to our January 2024 District Student of the Month Shupriya Karki! She is featured in today's edition of The Observer thanks to our friends at First Central State Bank. Shupriya Karki likes to be productive which is why she consistently surpasses expectations in her academic and extracurricular activities. And, this is just one of the reasons her teacher, Molly Reedy, nominated her for District Student of the Month. “Shupriya works very hard and always tries her best. She shows initiative in school projects and activities,” Mrs. Reedy said. “I know she will always go the extra mile in tasks, and whatever she puts her mind to will be incredible!” Recently Shupriya created a classroom newspaper that contains articles, important dates, photos, and information about what they will be learning next. With the help of a few classmates, she works on the newspaper during free time in class and after school. She was inspired to create the class newspaper after working on the CDIS Saber Nation newspaper and news show produced by students in the Extended Learning Program. Shupriya is also involved in band and choir where she was recently selected to participate in both the Young Musician’s Honor Band and SEICDA Honor Choir. She is also a member of the CDIS Kindness Crew and Best Buddies. Her achievements go beyond the classroom, too. Shupriya earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, which she has been learning since she was seven years old. She credits Tae Kwon Do for teaching her the importance of showing respect for others. All of Shupriya’s accomplishments are a testament to her talents, character, and commitment to positively impact those around her. There is no doubt that she will continue to excel and make a difference in the world. #gosabers #cdcsdstudentofthemonth #centraldewittcsd #cdis #firstcentralstatebank #saberssucceeding

Reminder if you haven’t filled out this survey yet, please do so by Monday, Jan. 22! Your input is very valuable and will make a difference for Central DeWitt students! In the past few months, we’ve been talking about Portrait of a Graduate and how, with your help, it will change the way we educate our students to ensure they are adequately prepared for the path they choose after graduation. We’ve shared ways you can be involved in the planning process and this survey is an opportunity for your voice to be heard! This important survey is to gather your thoughts about the key deeper learning competencies Central DeWitt graduates need to be future-ready (to get to and through their post-secondary goals for college, career, civic, and personal engagement). When taking the survey, please consider your desire for the types of people that live, learn, and work in your community. If you represent a business, please consider your organization's needs when hiring and retaining employees. Community/Parent Survey: https://forms.gle/DTUYWSvwT5qcpmodA We are also asking Central DeWitt alumni who graduated between 2017 and 2022 to fill out this survey: https://forms.gle/CcCposZq4GpVia9W9 This will help the district as we strive to develop a portrait of what our graduates should be able to do upon graduation. Thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey and for your willingness to help us develop the Central DeWitt Portrait of a Graduate!

Congratulations to sophomore Shea McAleer, whose design, “Imagination,” was selected as the winner for this year’s Figge Factory T-shirt Design contest! His design will be the featured Figge Factory t-shirt sold in the museum store later this year. Additionally, he received a free one-year household membership to the Figge, a $100 prize, and a free printmaking party for his friends/family (where they’ll learn how to print shirts they get to keep and enjoy pizza and snacks). Shea's design was chosen over many designs from schools all over the Quad City Area! Shea is only the second Saber artist to achieve this awesome honor.
