On Thursday, October 23rd at 5 p.m., The Observer will be hosting a School Board Candidate Forum at the Central DeWitt Performing Arts Center. Candidates Jed Ganzer, Michelle Martens and Nicholas Strohman will have the opportunity to share their views through a prepared statement followed by a moderated Q&A session. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for Central DeWitt School Board!

Then, make sure you vote on Tuesday, November4th or request an absentee ballot.

Last week, 14 Early Childhood Curriculum students had an unforgettable day at the Bettendorf Family Museum, exploring creative learning environments! 🎨✨ They participated in preschool classes, constructed and designed works of art in the Imagination Station, enjoyed the ADA-compliant playground, and absolutely loved the new Road Trip exhibit. Many are already planning their next visit!

Even more importantly, students deepened their appreciation for the power of play—because play = research = learning! They wrapped up the day with a delicious meal together at Jimmy’s Pancake House. 🥞💜

Last Wednesday, three DeWitt students toured Augustana College in Rock Island. Students met with admissions to learn about everything Auggie has to offer, including wonderful scholarship opportunities and opportunities to get involved!

Great job to these students for taking steps towards their college search and working on making a post secondary plan! Next up for college visits is: St. Ambrose, Mt. Mercy, Coe, UW- Platteville, and Clinton Community College!

Ms. Garrity will be honored at the Art Educators of Iowa Fall Conference in Cedar Falls on October 10th. With 26 years of teaching experience — 20 of those right here at Central DeWitt — she has inspired generations of Sabers through her creativity, passion, and dedication.

As a National Board Certified Teacher in Art (the highest honor an educator can achieve) and one of only 17 National Art Education Association Connected Arts Networks Teacher Leaders nationwide, her excellence is recognized across the country. What we value most is the way she uplifts and encourages her students and colleagues, leads with excellence, and serves as a true inspiration every single day.

She also extends her love of teaching art to the community as the owner of The Fountain House Art Studio and Gallery. In addition, Ms. Garrity is an accomplished illustrator, having brought books to life with her artwork — often using her two sons as inspiration and subjects.

You may have noticed some recent changes with our transportation system. Thank you for your patience as we work to make routes as safe and efficient as possible. One simple step makes a big difference: students using their bus cards every single day.

Scanning cards helps us:
✅ Keep accurate records of who’s on the bus for safety
✅ Prevent delays when drivers would otherwise need to enter names manually
✅ Build the most efficient routes for all students

📲 Consistent card use also opens the door to new tools like the parent app, which will give families real-time updates about their child’s bus.

How you can help:
• Remind your child to carry their bus card every day.
• Students with phones can snap a picture of their badge and scan from the photo.
• Lanyards or card holders make scanning quick and easy.

Robbie has been recognized as Student of the Month for his remarkable dedication, character, and leadership. His teacher, Ms. Johnson, describes him as a student who consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to help others each day.

No matter the task, Robbie approaches it with focus, determination, and a commitment to doing his very best. His upbeat outlook helps create a welcoming and encouraging environment both inside and outside the classroom.

Robbie gives every assignment his full effort and never gives up, even when something is tricky. He enjoys learning new things and is excited to share what he learns with his classmates. He also demonstrates initiative by taking ownership of his learning—actively participating in discussions, asking thoughtful questions, and seeking out opportunities to improve.
