On January 30th, the Central DeWitt Middle School Girls' Wrestling Team hosted its inaugural home meet in their first season of the program. The team consists of 19 wrestlers, (9 seventh graders and 10 eighth graders). Anthony Green and Katlyn Irwin are coaches for the team.
Coach Green expressed his enthusiasm for the “exciting” number of girls joining the team and their willingness to try wrestling. He emphasized that wrestling is a sport that all students can learn, and that everyone is on an equal playing field considering it is a relatively new sport for most girls. Coach Green said wrestling is a great sport to help with confidence-building, goal-setting, and personal development.
Coach Green and Irwin, along with the team, are looking forward to the remainder of the season and the continuous improvement of their skills.
The Girls' Wrestling team has two meets remaining this year, and the Coaches encourage fans to support the team during their first season. The upcoming matches are scheduled as follows:
• February 13 @ North Scott 4:00 p.m.
• February 15 @ Camanche 4:00 p.m.

Yesterday 8th grade students had the opportunity to tour the DeWitt Career Advancement Center and learn about the different career academies offered. Career Academies give juniors and seniors the opportunity to build workforce skills and earn college credits at no cost. The information students received yesterday will help them as they begin planning and choosing courses for high school next year.
Currently the DeWitt location offers academies in Agriculture, CNC Machining, Construction Technology, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Small Business Management. So many great opportunities for our students!
