💜💛 Congratulations to our September 2023 district Student of the Month 2023 Shamiyah Morgan! She is featured in today's edition of The Observer - DeWitt, Iowa thanks to our friends at First Central State Bank. Senior Shamiyah Morgan feels she was born to be a leader and, as CDHS student council president, she proved that during Homecoming Week recently. Social Studies Teacher and CDHS Student Council Advisor Mr. Schwartz was impressed with Shamiyah’s leadership skills inspiring him to nominate her for District Student of the Month. “Shamiyah expertly organized and lead Homecoming activities,” Mr. Schwartz said. “This event requires hours of planning, significant coordination with entities outside the school and the ability to quickly make decisions in order to be successful.” She, along with other student council members, organized events, created marketing materials, and rallied peers, as well as the community, to get involved. Shamiyah’s efforts not only made the event a memorable one for her fellow students but for the school district as a whole. Shamiyah’s impact on Central DeWitt is not limited to Homecoming. Since sixth grade she has been an active participant in student leadership, school clubs and events. She currently serves as an executive member of the Camanche-DeWitt Coalition. She feels it’s important to participate in extracurriculars because you get to know people you normally wouldn’t and it teaches valuable skills students will take with them after high school. “When it comes to being successful in school, take advantage of opportunities that we have,” Shamiyah said. “We have a lot that other schools don’t have.” Shamiyah’s natural talent for motivating and inspiring others ensures she will make a significant impact on her community and on the world in the future. #gosabers #cdcsdstudentofthemonth #centraldewittcsd #cdhs #firstcentralstatebank #saberssucceeding

We are thrilled to announce that students at CDIS have successfully met their school-wide behavior goal! Classrooms have the opportunity to be nominated in the form of Golden Paw Nominations for their behaviors related to being a SABER (S=Safety A=Accountablility B=Believe in Yourself E=Everyone Matters R=Respect). Golden Paw Nominations can come from any staff member from within CDIS. The goal was to reach 60 nominations by the end of September and they crushed it by receiving over 150 Golden Paw Nominations building-wide! They hosted an assembly on September 29th to celebrate as a building and recognize individual classrooms that had the most Golden Paw Nominations! CDIS students had the opportunity to vote on their reward and they voted to have a Pajama Day on October 6th! This achievement is a testament to their hard work, positive attitudes, and dedication to creating a respectful and supportive learning environment. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to continuing this positive momentum throughout the school year. #gosabers #centraldewittcsd #cdis #goldenpaw #sabersucceeding #saberbehavior #saberpride

SAVE THE DATE: The Month of October brings many special causes, one being Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan stated “When a child loses their parent, they are called an orphan, when a spouse loses their loved one, they are called a widow or widower, when a parent loses their child, there are no words to describe them.” Every year thousands of parents are left unaware of how to grieve the loss of their babies. FCCLA, along with Camila's Causes, want to spread awareness by making and selling candles. Money raised will be donated toward No Foot Too Small and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. FCCLA will be selling candles at three different events listed on the flyer. If anyone is interested in purchasing a candle but cannot make it to the events we are selling at please email Ms. Sage at alisa.sage@cd-csd.org. On October 15th from 5:30 to 7:30, FCCLA would like to invite people in the community to join us for the Wave of Light. We will have some family-friendly activities before the candle lighting at sunset. Event will take place on the CDHS football field. #gosabers #centraldewittcsd #cdhs #fccla #waveoflight #nofoottoosmall #uofisteadfamilychildrenshospital #fcclacandles #pregnancyandinfantlossawarenessmonth

As our students arrived at school, they were greeted with warm smiles, high-fives, and words of encouragement from these group members. Congratulations to Central DeWitt Intermediate School and Central DeWitt Middle School for being named as 2023 National Unified Champion Schools! Only three schools in Iowa were chosen and we had two of them! That’s incredible! Special Olympics Iowa will come at a later date to present the banner and hold an assembly to celebrate! National Unified Champion Schools are chosen based on having “an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff.” They also have to meet 10 national standards of excellence. In 2021 Central DeWitt High School was also named a National Unified Champion School. We are beyond proud to have schools that continually support, celebrate, and include everyone! #gosabers #centraldewittcsd #cdis #cdms #nationalunifiedchampionschools #saberpride #saberssucceeding #choosetoinclude #inclusion #everyonematters
