🌎 CDIS students, staff, and families enjoyed an out-of-this-world experience at this year’s 5th Grade Planet Fair! 🚀 Students impressed us all with their creativity as they designed original planets, constructed detailed 3D models, and shared the unique characteristics. This hands-on experience truly brought science to life in a fun and engaging way. 🌟

Great work 5th graders, and a big thank you to our teachers for creating such a memorable learning experience!

🚨 Central DeWitt Community School District remains committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. On Monday, March 30, every school in our district will conduct a Code Blue drill as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain our designation as Heart Safe Schools through Project ADAM.

We are partnering with Clinton County Emergency Management to conduct a comprehensive drill that will include a live response from local EMS. This collaboration provides valuable, real-world practice for both emergency responders and district staff—helping ensure a seamless response from the moment an emergency occurs through care and transport to the hospital.

Please note there will be very little student involvement in the drill activities, and students will not be expected to participate in any medical interventions. Students will hear the drill be called over the intercom and may be transitioned to another classroom as part of our emergency response plan.

What is Project ADAM?
Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) is a nationally recognized program focused on preparing schools to respond to cardiac emergencies. The program promotes education, planning, and access to life-saving equipment like AEDs to increase survival rates. Being a Heart Safe School means our district meets specific standards to ensure we are prepared when every second counts.

❤️ We are proud to share that CDCSD was the first school district as a whole in Iowa to earn this certification—and we are committed to continuing that tradition of excellence in safety.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to keep our schools safe and prepared. 💜💛

The Saber Speech Team delivered an outstanding performance at the State Individual Events Contest held at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, with 11 team members performing in 15 events. Their hard work and preparation paid off in a big way, earning ten straight Division I ratings (the highest possible), three overall Division I ratings, one overall Division II, and one straight Division II.

Highlighting an already impressive day, Jack Butler received exceptional recognition with his selection as an All-State performer for his Prose piece, “Eating Crayons” by Ryan M. Bultrowicz. This marks the third time Jack has earned All-State honors—an incredible accomplishment that places him among the top speech performers in Iowa.

Jack will take the stage once again at the Iowa High School Speech Association Individual Events All State Festival, held at University of Northern Iowa on Monday, March 30, where he will perform for a special guest critic.

To celebrate these achievements, a sendoff event will be held on Friday, March 27 in the high school atrium to honor Jack and recognize the entire Saber Speech Team for their outstanding accomplishments.

🏀 Our Unified Special Olympics basketball team recently had an unforgettable experience! 💜💛

They were invited to play at both the girls and boys state basketball tournaments, where they took the court during halftime to face another Unified team. Playing in front of a packed arena and being part of the excitement of the state tournament made for a truly special moment for our athletes.

Unified Sports bring students together to compete on the same team, building friendships, teamwork, and school pride. Opportunities like this showcase the power of inclusion and the positive impact it can have on everyone involved.

KWQC Kevin Kohr shared some of the action here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1L715CjPp3/?mibextid=wwXIfr

We are incredibly proud of our Sabers for representing our district so well and for showing the true spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion! 👏

The CDPAC stage came alive with creativity on Thursday as Mrs. Hahn’s 4th, 5th, and 6th grade WIN students hosted a poetry slam. Students took turns performing a variety of poems, including both published pieces and their own original work.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to share their voices, celebrate poetry, and gain experience speaking in front of an audience. Congratulations to all of the participants on a fantastic performance! 👏📚✨

🎉 The total is in! Thanks to the generosity of all who donated or attended the CDHS Student Council Royal Ball last Friday, just over $2,800 was raised for the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Last Friday, Ekstrand Elementary’s gym was transformed into an enchanting castle as guests enjoyed music, dancing, games, and creative activities such as crown making, castle building, face painting, and a royal photo booth. With the help of 30 dedicated volunteers, the event created a memorable night for everyone who attended!

Great job to the Student Council members, Mrs. Jory, and volunteers who worked so hard to plan and host the event! The Royal Ball was a wonderful success, bringing our community together for a meaningful cause. CDHS Student Council is already looking ahead and making big plans for another great Royal Ball next year! 👑✨
