For sophomore Amelia Griffin, school is all about preparing now for a successful future with endless possibilities.
“School is the beginning of my life,” Amelia said. “I’m learning, I’m developing and growing as a person to ultimately set myself up for my whole future. So, I want to do well and set myself up for success.”
And, according to her teachers, she is doing just that. Her good character and strong work ethic are helping her excel and why she was nominated for student of the month by CDHS Art Teacher Cassie Dunlavey.
“Amelia brings a positive attitude and great work effort to class every single day. She is willing to try new things and always pushes herself to become a better artist,” Mrs. Dunlavey said.
What Amelia loves about art is the opportunity it provides for her to express her creativity and show people what she can do. She also enjoys creating art for others and appreciates getting input which she said helps her grow as an artist.
Art isn’t the only area where Amelia is excelling. She works hard to maintain good grades in all of her classes while being a staff member of the CDHS literary magazine The Scribbler, and participating in Art Club and choir. She has also been involved in Girl Scouts for eight years where she has learned valuable skills that will continue to benefit her in the future.
When asked what advice Amelia would give others about succeeding in school, she recommends always trying your best even when it’s hard, staying motivated, being present and keep pushing yourself to be as great as you can be. Amelia is a shining example of a Saber who will continue to thrive and inspire others along the way.

This morning CDIS Music Teacher Mrs. Dean took 4th graders to Symphony Day at the Adler Theater. The students watched the Quad Cities Symphony perform, learned about the instruments being played, and even participated with the orchestra! Everyone had a great time and the students represented Central DeWitt well. Thank you to their homeroom teachers as well as five associates who helped chaperone! This week 9th-11th graders had a chance to learn more about the opportunities available to them at the DeWitt Career Advancement Center. During their tour, students explored the six academies that will be available for juniors and seniors in the DeWitt location next year. Students were surveyed earlier in the month to see which academies, available in DeWitt, Clinton and Maquoketa, interested them. The academies will run year-round, and students can earn certification within the career fields offered (IT, CNC, Small Business Management, Construction Technology, Healthcare, and Agriculture).
