Over the past few weeks, CDIS, CDMS and CDHS physical education classes have been learning the benefits of yoga and mindfulness techniques thanks to Challenge to Change instructors Angela Rickertsen and Bobbi Kelley. Yoga practices are proven to reduce stress, enhance self-esteem, help regulate emotions and improve mental health. We love seeing the students become empowered by what they are learning and excited to see them implement these practices into their daily lives. Prior to Thanksgiving Break, CDIS students and staff celebrated reaching their school-wide behavior goal by having an "Anything but a Backpack Day!“ 💜💛 "Anything but a Backpack Day" is a day when students are encouraged to leave their backpacks at home and bring their school supplies in a different type of container. At CDIS, students brought their supplies in board game boxes, fishing nets, and even rolling luggage (just to name a few)! We loved seeing the creativity of the students and the excitement from students as they entered the building! Mrs. Waleszonia’s class recently decorated a Christmas tree that was put on display at the Quad City Arts Festival of Trees in Davenport. The students got a chance to see their tree on display as well as all the other trees when they visited the festival last week. Happy Thanksgiving! Today 35 families in our community will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal thanks to our National Honor Society members and our generous community. Each family receive three boxes overflowing with a variety of non-perishable goods, meats, household supplies, toiletries, milk, butter, eggs and all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
