Mrs. Franker’s 5th grade class participated in her annual “Positive Behavior Auction” the last day school. Each time a student displayed a positive behavior throughout the school year they were given a “Franker token.” Students used these tokens to “purchase” items at the auction. Hundreds of items were donated by parents and other individuals. Thank you to everyone who donated! Mrs. Franker also took her class for ice cream earlier in the week! Central DeWitt Community School District will be closed Monday, June 5th and Tuesday, June 6th for some well-deserved time off for our year-round employees. This will not affect any events, such as camps and games, scheduled at the schools on those days. Summer business will resume as usual on Wednesday, June 7th.

On Monday, June 5th the Ekstrand Elementary roofing project will begin. During the first week rock will be removed with a vacuum which will be loud and could be disruptive for those who live near the school. Work will begin at 7:00 a.m. and run through late afternoon. This part of the project should take approximately four days. Also, this summer the current playground will be removed to prepare for the installation of the new more-inclusive playground. Please be aware it will not be available during that time. We will keep you updated on the progress! Today we honor the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The poppy is a part of Memorial Day history and a symbol of lives lost since World War I, something Ekstrand students learned recently thanks to the Poppy Project by the DeWitt American Legion Auxilary and art teacher Ms. Janaszak. As part of the project, Ms. Janaszak had a contest for students to create their own poppies. Congratulations to the contest winners! Please remember that tickets for the game must be purchased in advance! Below is information regarding the match at the NS Athletic Complex: Tickets • General Admission to the game is $6.00 for both students and adults. This is an IGHSAU event. No season passes will be accepted. • Tickets can be purchased in advance on Varsity Bound for all post-season events. You will need to take a left on 3rd Avenue. Followed by a right on Iowa Street. This will take you directly to the high school. For drop off, it may be best to turn left or right depending on your direction on Sheridan drive which is south of the high school for drop off. Map is included for assistance. Construction Around NS Athletic Complex During the 2023 seasons, we will have construction taking place around our soccer, baseball and tennis courts. Spectator Parking • Parking for spectators is available in various locations. o Parking lot near baseball field. (North of the Soccer field and tennis courts.) o Parking lot east of the soccer pitch. After reading the book Balloons Over Broadway, Ms. Smith and Mrs. Jackson’s Peer STEM students were inspired to put on their own balloon parade, similar to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students created paper mache balloons and attached them to bee bots which they programmed to follow a path for the parade. They also helped create the colorful background for the parade. Our Sabers put on a great performance at State Track & Field (see results below) and Tristan Rheingans brought home a 400 Hurdles State Championship, our girls golf team is headed to the state tournament in Cedar Falls, and our girls tennis team made it to the final four in the state tournament! And, last but not least, we had a great time celebrating the Class of 2023 yesterday at commencement!
