ATTENTION incoming juniors, seniors, and parents!
Clinton Community College is working on getting a Career Academy Center up and running in DeWitt. In the future, there is plan to run six different CTE programs out of Dewitt; however, with the uncertainty of completing the building before the fall of 2023, CCC is planning to do a slow roll out with two of the Academies. There is a backup location secured to ensure these programs run in August 2023.
The two academies being offered in DeWitt for the 2023-2024 school year are Small Business Management and Agriculture. Please find information attached which explains careers within these pathways, as well as the program of study for the academy courses. All of the classes offered are worth college credit, and can help jumpstart a career within these two career fields.
After completion of the Small Business Management Academy, students will be able to obtain a certificate and 18 college credits working toward higher degrees. Completion of the Ag Academy allows students to obtain 13.5 credits for the first year, or 28.5 credits if they continue with the academy both junior and senior year. In the future there will be more opportunities for students, but right now we are only focusing on the two academies that are starting in the fall.
Representatives from CCC were out in DeWitt last week to share the information and answer student questions regarding the academies. In addition, students can plan a meeting with Holly Hansen to discuss these further. If a student knows they want to try an academy, they will need to meet with Mary Beth Schaible to ensure it works for their high school schedule. These academies are a year-long commitment and will take the place of two high school blocks.
We are looking forward to offering more opportunities to the students in exploring and solidifying their interests!

‼️ ATTENTION SENIORS: Bring your graduation robes tomorrow for the “Graduation Walk” through CDIS, CDMS and CDHS tomorrow following the awards ceremony. Put your name on the inside of the robe and leave it in on the tables in the atrium in the morning. You do NOT need your caps.

This semester seniors Lynden Zevenbergen, Jena Edwards, and Mairead Willimack had a unique opportunity to intern with local businesses through Cooperative Education, a dual credit course offered by CDHS and Eastern Iowa Community College. This work-based learning course is a vital part of our Career and Technical Education program and is a capstone course, taught by Mr. Law, within the Business Education Department.
On Thursday, the students presented what they learned from their experience to parents, administrators, and participating business representatives. The business representatives shared how impressed they were with the students work ethic and what a positive experience this was them. The DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation even surprised their intern, Mairead, with a scholarship!
Thank you to First Trust& Savings in Grand Mound, the DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation and Fieldstone of DeWitt for partnering with us to provide this valuable opportunity for students! Congratulations to our seniors on a job well done!

Seniors only have two days of school left! Senior Awards are Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. and Commencement is this Sunday at 3 p.m.! Stay tuned for more details. There will be a send-off on Wednesday morning at 7:40 in the CDHS atrium for our track athletes headed to state. Please join us as we wish them well! Good luck to our CDHS girls golf team at the regional meet this Wednesday at Manchester and to our girls tennis team as they take on Marion for regional team tennis. Today is the club and organization fair at CDHS. CDIS and Ekstrand have Field Days this week. Let’s finish the school year strong!

Several members from the AEA came to CDHS on Tuesday to share their information about their careers with students. The more than 20 Central DeWitt and Calamus-Wheatland students that attended are mostly interested in pursuing careers in healthcare and/or education. The AEA employees shared how some of their careers tie both fields together and that there are several ways for those interested in education to work with children outside of the traditional classroom setting. Thank you to those who took time to meet with students!
