🍫Last week, nine 6th graders participated in an engaging Chocolate Debate as an extension of the Amplify Chocolate Collection, giving students the opportunity to dive deeper into the topic through research, discussion, and critical thinking.

The selected students met to practice and prepare with Mrs. Hahn, while also completing much of the work independently. The debate topic was:
👉 “Should chocolate be included in school lunches?”

Students delivered impressive presentations, supporting their claims with strong reasoning and evidence. During the open discussion portion, they truly had to think on their feet—responding to opposing viewpoints and respectfully challenging the arguments of others.

Participants represented both Reedy’s and Thompson’s ELA classes, highlighting collaboration across classrooms and the power of student voice.

👏 Well done to Ellie Mishler, Lois Vincent, Domenica Cimino, Benjamin Claeys, Asher Claeys, Hudson Grell, Jack McGee, Kinnick Olson, and Eloise Ohnemus—you rose to the challenge and made us proud!

🍫 These 6th graders enjoyed a sweet, hands-on learning experience with a guest speaker from the Quad City Botanical Center. Students explored how chocolate is made—from bean to bar—and learned about cacao production and sourcing.

The lesson came to life as students taste-tested a variety of chocolates, many from fair trade brands connecting perfectly to the chocolate collection studied in Amplify. From bold cacao flavors to unexpected textures, some samples truly surprised our students!

A big thank you to Central DeWitt PTO for their donation that supported this engaging learning experience!✨
