AP Calculus, Advanced Chemistry, and AP Physics 1 students took a trip to Argonne National Laboratory, one of 17 national laboratories operated by the Department of Energy. The students were able to take a tour of the campus and participate in a learning lab over virus variants. One major stop on the tour included visiting the 2nd fastest supercomputer in the world, Aurora. Another momentous stop was seeing Argonne's recently updated Advanced Photon Source. It is one of only five in the country where scientists can study materials and chemical processes using high-energy X-ray beams. It was a fun and educational experience!

Adventures of Don Quixote is underway in ELA Unit 4! Mrs. Walls and Mrs. Hofer’s 5th graders kicked off the unit by creating knight shields and brainstorming traits that make great knights. Each shield included a title (Sir/Lady/Dame), a trait, a place of origin, and symbols for their made-up character. Once finished, the queen (Mrs. Walls) knighted students in a ceremony honoring the Saber Code of Chivalry.
After reviewing what they learned about knights in 4th grade, students are now ready to dive into an adapted version of Don Quixote—a story that includes satire, humor and idealism. This whimsical tale also exposes students to the timeless aspects of this classic work, such as the relationship between Don Quixote and his sidekick, Sancho Panza. It promises to be a fun journey of learning about plot development, characters and literary elements!
