Fifth grade teachers Mrs. Walls and Mrs. Hofer joined forces to create a cozy Poetry Café, showcasing their students’ favorite works from the CKLA Amplify Unit 2: Poetry. Students courageously took the stage to share their original poems, bringing their lessons to life in a creative and inspiring way.
Special guest Adam Wilke, a junior at CDHS and member of The Scribbler staff, inspired everyone by reading one of his own works. The Scribbler, our high school literary magazine, is proof that the love of writing grows with every grade! Here’s to the next generation of poets and storytellers!

On Monday, our 2nd graders hosted their very own Thanksgiving "Balloons Over Ekstrand" parade! Each student showcased their creativity by designing their own festive balloons. The hallways were filled with excitement as these masterpieces floated by!
But the fun didn’t stop there! After the parade, students from Mrs. Sikkema and Mrs. Burzlaff’s classes took part in a fantastic readers theater performance of "Turks and Runt." The gobbling, giggles, and storytelling had everyone clapping and smiling from ear to ear!
What a fantastic way to celebrate the season. Great job, 2nd grade!

FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), is a national organization that offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for sudents to pursue careers that support families. Last Thursday, a team of Central DeWitt students represented our high school at the IAHSEA Esports state tournament at Orpheum Theatre in Marshalltown. It was a close match, but lost to the tournament's top-ranked team from Council Bluffs, as well as another tough match to Marshalltown High School. 🎵 This morning, CDHS celebrated Marie Klostermann, Brady Herington, and Matthew Boeding before they headed to the All-State Music Festival happening this weekend!
• Marie debuts as one of the top 5 contra clarinet performers in the state.
• Brady returns for his second year as one of the top 14 bass clarinet players in Iowa.
• Matthew makes his first appearance after being an alternate last year, marking CDHS's first vocalist performing a the festival in nearly 10 years!
📅 The concert is Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 7:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, and will be rebroadcast on IPTV Thanksgiving (Nov. 28th) evening at 7 p.m.

Our Transition Alliance Program (TAP) Specialist Ann Green recently collaborated with Mrs. Regenwether's students on activities designed to strengthen their advocacy skills.
TAP is a program focused on assisting eligible students to become career and college ready though specialized job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, workplace readiness training, post-secondary training opportunities, self-advocacy instruction, job placement and independent living skills.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Eva is highly active in the school community. Thank you to Nurse Practitioner Heather Ohnemus for visiting our 6th graders to give them an inside look at the medical diagnosis process—sharing how healthcare professionals identify illnesses and care for patients. This visit was part of the 6th grade Amplify Yellow Fever unit, where students have been exploring the causes, symptoms, transmission, prevention methods, and historical impact of the disease. What an incredible way to connect classroom learning with real-world practices!

Congratulations to 7th grader Makena Rickertsen and 8th grader William Vickers who were recently selected for participation in the 38th annual Opus Honor Choir Festival! Over 2,400 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition. The 2024 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4 p.m. on November 21st in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center in Ames.
Makena was selected as a soprano 1 to sing in the 7th & 8th grade Treble Clef Honor Choir. William was chosen as a baritone to sing in the 7th & 8th grade Bass Clef Honor Choir. This is a very prestigious achievement and we’re proud to have you represent Central DeWitt!
