This semester seniors Connor Pena, Nick Dunlavey, Anthony Meyer, Joseph Burken had the opportunity to intern with local businesses through Cooperative Education, a dual credit course offered by CDHS and Eastern Iowa Community College. This work-based learning course is a vital part of our Career and Technical Education program and is taught by Mr. Law, in the Business Education Department.
On Monday, the students presented what they learned from their experience to parents, administrators, and participating business representatives. The business representatives shared how impressed they were with the students and what a positive experience this was for them.

Today is the last day of school for the Class of 2024 which is always bittersweet for Central DeWitt. We are sad to see them go, but excited for all of the opportunities awaiting them in the next phase of their lives.
This past Monday, CDHS celebrated their achievements during the Senior Awards Ceremony. Seniors were recognized for a number of achievements and altogether received almost a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships. On Monday, members of this year's Esports team competed in the Iowa State Spring Season Tournament for MarioKart. This past weekend Mr. Greubel presented a clinic titled "All-State Prep! A Rural School Approach to Play the Game!" to a roomful of 50 other band directors at the Iowa Bandmasters Association annual conference. This is Mr. Greubel's fourth time presenting at the IBA Conference representing Central DeWitt and the work that he and our students do together. Mr. Greubel is a past NEIBA representative on the IBA Concert Band Affairs, serving for six years and the chair for three years. Mr. Greubel is also an active adjudicator for the IBA, the IHSMA, and other local and area schools. Mr. Greubel and his students actively host several festivals for the IHSMA (state), NEIBA (district), the MAC conference, as well as the All-Iowa Concert Band Festival yearly. Way to go, Mr. Greubel!

For the last 11 years, the DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation, in collaboration with the LincolnWay Community Foundation, has provided free bike helmets to second-grade students in local elementary schools. This year, they formed a new partnership with Central DeWitt High School's Business Communication class, led by Christopher Law. He saw the helmet giveaway as an ideal service-learning project for his students.
The class took on various roles to support the project including organizing helmet sizes, communicating with teachers, scheduling, and putting helmets together with collateral.
Last week, they handed out over 230 helmets to second graders at Ekstrand Elementary, St. Joseph Catholic School, Delwood Elementary, Northeast Elementary, and Calamus-Wheatland Elementary School. This experience not only provided extra hands to help the hospital foundation, it also empowered Central DeWitt students to play an active role in helping their community.
