ATTENTION CDHS STUDENTS! Auditions for the CDHS spring play, “The Alibis” will be held Thursday, Feb. 1st & Friday, Feb. 2nd from 6-8 p.m. in the Central DeWitt Performing Arts Center. All Central DeWitt High School students interested in performing are welcome to attend either, or both night’s audition. There are a number of parts available for actors of all experience levels. Any student interested in participating backstage (technical theater) is also welcome to come to the auditions and grab a Tech Crew sign-up sheet. We need everything from lights and sound to costumes and construction. All are welcome! If you have a good attitude, we can teach you everything else. 💜🏆💛 Yesterday was a very proud day for Central DeWitt! Central DeWitt Intermediate School and Central DeWitt Middle School were officially recognized as 2023 National Unified Champion Schools. Only three schools in Iowa were chosen this year and we were two of them! On top of that, Central DeWitt Middle School was chosen as the ESPN Honor Roll School representing the state of Iowa for their work as a National Unified Champion School. During assemblies held yesterday, Krista Smith from Special Olympics Iowa presented the National Unified Champion School banners to each school. Senator Chris Cournoyer presented an Iowa flag that was hung over the capitol in Des Moines on Wed., January 24th in honor of Central DeWitt’s achievements. Then our Special Olympics basketball players faced off against Best Buddies in quick game of basketball. In 2021, Central DeWitt High School was also named a National Unified Champion School. There are only 10 schools in Iowa that have ever achieved this honor and Central DeWitt now fills three of those spots! We are so incredibly proud to have students, staff, teachers and administrators that continually support, celebrate, and include everyone! A special shoutout to our Special Olympic athletes, Unified partners, and Best Buddies who lead us in making our schools a place where everyone matters and all abilities are celebrated. And also to our Special Olympics coaches Megan Jackson, Deb Meyne, and Terri Smith who always see potential in our students and continually provide new opportunities to learn, grow and include. Congratulations to all of our Sabers! 💜💛 Congratulations to our January 2024 District Student of the Month Shupriya Karki! She is featured in today's edition of The Observer thanks to our friends at First Central State Bank. Shupriya Karki likes to be productive which is why she consistently surpasses expectations in her academic and extracurricular activities. And, this is just one of the reasons her teacher, Molly Reedy, nominated her for District Student of the Month. “Shupriya works very hard and always tries her best. She shows initiative in school projects and activities,” Mrs. Reedy said. “I know she will always go the extra mile in tasks, and whatever she puts her mind to will be incredible!” Recently Shupriya created a classroom newspaper that contains articles, important dates, photos, and information about what they will be learning next. With the help of a few classmates, she works on the newspaper during free time in class and after school. She was inspired to create the class newspaper after working on the CDIS Saber Nation newspaper and news show produced by students in the Extended Learning Program. Shupriya is also involved in band and choir where she was recently selected to participate in both the Young Musician’s Honor Band and SEICDA Honor Choir. She is also a member of the CDIS Kindness Crew and Best Buddies. Her achievements go beyond the classroom, too. Shupriya earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, which she has been learning since she was seven years old. She credits Tae Kwon Do for teaching her the importance of showing respect for others. All of Shupriya’s accomplishments are a testament to her talents, character, and commitment to positively impact those around her. Jack Butler and Laura Martens came away with a commendable Division II performance in Musical Theatre.
